Introduction:
Hi there! If you are a creative individual who is curious about other artist’s creative journeys and lifestyle, then my blog may be up your alley. My name is Katie Crumpton, and I’m an illustrator! Welcome to my first blog post! I love being able to share what I’ve learned with other fellow creatives! I’ve been drawing all my life, went to art school in San Francisco, and now I’m a published Children’s book illustrator. I’m also a small business owner and sell prints and products of my art, so there’s a lot I’ve learned over the years. What you can expect from future blog posts: I want to create a space for aspiring artists where I can give other artists general art related advice, business tips, and write about lifestyle topics that impact our creative lives inside and out of work. So my blog is definitely geared for all artists, but especially those who plan on turning their art into a career! I felt like this could also be another way that I can share any news and updates regarding my art adventures as well. Sharing any project news, and making posts about any events that I’ll be hosting or attending. Why I decided to start a Blog:
I wanted to make a blog because as much as I love making video content, I also love writing, which is something that I’ve been wanting to do more of. Getting my thoughts out by writing can also help organize my thoughts to prepare for making video content. Which overall leads me to be able to repurpose content and have multiple ways of reaching out to other aspiring artists!
Also, with social media platforms being unpredictable as they are and not as permanent as they may seem (Considering the possible TikTok ban), I’ve been trying to find more methods to bring more traffic to my site, and have other ways people can find me beyond the popular social platforms. Blogs can also help with SEO (Search Engine Optimization), which can help bring traffic to a website. (Artists take notes) So for anyone out there who wants more site traffic, that is something to consider for your small business.
My Background as an illustrator:
I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil
Went to art school at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Graduated in 2016
Redbubble Artist Resident in San Francisco in 2016
Published children’s book illustrator since 2018
Represented by Astound.US Illustration Agency
Business owner of Katie Crumpton Art LLC
I primarily work digitally, using my ipad Pro and my Apple pencil as my main tools of choice. I have a background in using wacom tablets, and experience in using various Adobe programs. However the main app I currently use to illustrate is Procreate. I also have experience using traditional mediums, such as watercolor, posca markers, acrylic paint, copic markers..etc. I also enjoy merging digital and traditional mediums together, as well as making my digital art look more traditional, using brushes with various textures. Overall my artwork is very whimsical, or at least that’s what I’m usually aiming for. I love magic, fantasy and using lots of vibrant colors to create my art.
Conclusion:
Key takeaways:
I’m an artist wanting to help other creatives

Thank you to those who have stuck with me through this introduction blog! I haven’t written a blog since my time as a Redbubble artist resident, so this was really refreshing.
